“It’s All About Jesus!”
Questions Jesus Asked
“When I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?” “Twelve,” they said. “And when I fed the 4,000 with seven loaves, how many large baskets of leftovers did you pick up?” “Seven,” they said. “Don’t you understand yet?” he asked them. – Mark 8:19-21 (NLT)

“The God of Leftovers”
Years ago when I was a young Youth Pastor, I used to play basketball in the mornings with a group of guys who were older than me. After we played, we’d go to a restaurant where we’d have breakfast together. Two of the men were successful businessmen who loved to fight over who got to pay the check. My first time there with them, one of them immediately told me he was buying. I was really hungry, but I was hesitant as I looked at the menu as to what I should order. I wanted to be polite and not cost too much. Almost as if he was reading my mind, my friend said, “Order whatever you want. Trust me, you can’t break me!” It was his generous way of letting me know that his bank account was bigger than my appetite.
Jesus’ line of questions today reminded me of that event. The disciples had forgotten to bring bread on their trip and were arguing about whose fault it was and what they were going to do about it. Jesus, knowing what they were arguing about, reminded them of some recent events. One was where He took a few fish and a few loaves of bread and fed over five thousand people with twelve baskets left over. The other was where He fed over four thousand people and had seven baskets left over. The point that He was making was an important one for them and for us. God is MORE THAN ENOUGH!
Keep that in mind as you bring your need to Jesus today. He is the Way Maker. He is the Multiplier. He is the God who can take a little and make it enough for the multitudes. Like my wealthy friend laughing over me worrying about how much a breakfast would cost him, God laughs over how we worry about whether God has enough to cover our rent, cover our bills, or take care of our kids. Whatever your need, whatever you lack, whatever you’re worried about today, bring it to the Lord. You can’t break His bank. Your need is not greater than His supply. Your problems are not greater than His answer. Remember what He told His disciples? Our God can not only meet your needs, He is the God of LEFTOVERS! He is more than enough! That’s God’s Word for you today.
