“Walking Through the Psalms”
“I love you, LORD; you are my strength.” – Psalm 18:1 (NLT)
“A Prayer to Start Your Day”
“I love you, LORD; you are my strength.” – Psalm 18:1 (NLT)
“A Prayer to Start Your Day”
I love this prayer. It resonates in my heart. It’s a great prayer for us to start EVERY day with. First, just to tell God we love Him. Yes, He KNOWS we love Him. But who of us doesn’t like to hear it? We forget that God is not a God who only likes to GIVE His Love; He also likes to RECEIVE it! In fact, Jesus said that loving God was the greatest of all the commandments. It’s the biggest and best of all the things we could do. Telling Him we love Him reminds us that this is a RELATIONSHIP that we have with Him and not just a religion we follow. Yes, we love all God does for us. But this is also a declaration that we love Him for who He is. He is wonderful and kind and gracious. What’s not to love?
The second part of this prayer is an affirmation of our dependence on Him. We NEED Him. We need His strength to fight through discouragement. Almost every day I end up in a conversation with someone who is ready to quit. Life is HARD. We need a strength greater than we possess. We need HIM. We need His strength to deal with the people around us. Crazy people. Angry people. Hurting people. People who want more from us than we can give. People who push our buttons, hurt our feelings, and fray our last nerve. We need His strength for the burdens some of us are carrying. We have problems we can’t solve and sorrows too heavy for us to bear. Some of us, even today, feel our knees buckling under the weight of it all. We need strength we don’t have. We need His strength.
So pray this prayer today. Tell God you love Him. Maybe even take a minute or two to tell Him WHY you love Him as you do. You’ll bless Him with that. Then tell Him you need His strength today. He knows what’s coming, and He knows you need it even more than you do. He’s just waiting for you to ask. Then step out and face your world. You are loved by God, and His power flows through you. You’ve got this. Because God’s got YOU! That’s God’s Word for you today.
