Powerful Words from the Prophets
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.” – Isaiah 6:6-7 (NLT)
“Just One Touch”
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.” – Isaiah 6:6-7 (NLT)
“Just One Touch”
Do you remember these beautiful words from that wonderful old song, “He Touched Me?”
Shackled by a heavy burden
'Neath a load of guilt and shame
Then the hand of Jesus touched me
And now I am no longer the same
He touched me, oh, He touched me
And oh, the joy that floods my soul
Something happened, and now I know
He touched me, and made me whole
That song ran through my head as I read our verse today. Isaiah, as he stands before the brilliance of the holiness of God, becomes utterly aware of his sin. Though his shame is pushing him to run away, God’s grace responds exactly opposite. It reaches out. One touch from the hot coal of God’s mercy brings forgiveness, righteousness, and wholeness. “Where sin did abound, grace did much more abound!”
I want you to sit with that thought today. If you stand guilty before God today, you don’t need to jump through a dozen hoops or perform a bunch of rituals. All of your human effort can never remove the stain of sin from your life. But ONE TOUCH from God can! 1 John 1:9 reminds us that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
But it’s not just forgiveness. One Touch from God can bring healing. We saw it over and over again in the ministry of Jesus. One Touch from God can give you the courage that you need. Just One Touch from His Guiding Hand can get you started in the right direction. One Touch can clear the chaos from your mind. Isaiah made a discovery that we all need to make. It doesn’t take a lot for God to take us from where we are to where we need to be. It only takes One Touch. That’s God’s Word for you today.
