Whiz Kids is not just a volunteer tutoring and mentoring program, it's a unique initiative that prioritizes the care of students primarily in 1st through 6th grade. We provide a safe space for them to be known, loved, and nurtured just as they are. Our focus is on students who are reading below grade level, navigating inequitable systems and circumstances, and could benefit most from a mentor relationship with a compassionate adult. With 28 sites throughout the metro area, we're making a difference in the lives of these children.

WHEN WE MEET

We meet every Thursday from 4 to 6 pm in the Shartel gym during the school year except for holidays, teacher professional days, or inclement weather.

what we do

We pick up the kids from Sky Ranch Elementary School in the church van and bring them to the church. Once at the church, each tutor sits with their kids and eats a light meal. After that, the kids go to Club Time to hear a Christian-inspired story or lesson. Afterward, they return to the gym, and the volunteers sit with the kids and bond with them while tutoring. At 6 pm, we wrap up, and the kids are either picked up by parents or driven home by tutors.

If you love kids and want to be a part of one's life, this may be the ministry for you.
