Powerful Words from the Prophets
“It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord.” – Isaiah 6:1 (NLT)

“A Fresh Glimpse of God”
When’s the last time you caught a fresh glimpse of God? God is like the sun. Huge. Brilliant. Illuminating. Beautiful. But for the most part, we take it for granted. It rises; it sets. We know that it’s there, but most days we don’t really pay attention. But then there are those moments…like when you happen to catch the first rays of light coming up over the mountains or when you’re frozen in awe by the million breathtaking colors of the sky at sunset. That’s when you SEE the sun. And you are in AWE.
It’s the same with God. Days come and days go. We know that God’s there. We even talk to Him once in a while. But then there are those moments when God shows Himself in a way that takes your breath away. You SEE Him. REALLY see Him. Years ago, I was reading through the Old Testament and found myself in the Book of Leviticus. Not most people’s favorite book. I’m reading Chapter 9, where Aaron has been given the instructions from Moses about how to offer a sacrifice to atone for the sins of the people. He does everything the way he’s supposed to and comes out, spreads his arms, and blesses the people who are all gathered outside the tabernacle. It was the first High Priest performing the first sin offering. And the fire of God came down and consumed the sacrifice. In a moment of divine revelation, I saw it! I saw the line of High Priests stretching through the centuries, year after year, offering sacrifice after sacrifice. Finally, Jesus, the Final High Priest, offers Himself as the Last Sacrifice. And He stretched out His Arms on the cross and proclaimed the Final Blessing: “It is FINISHED!”
My heart was pounding, the adrenaline was pumping, and I wanted to stand on my desk and SHOUT! I caught a fresh vision of the Amazing Grace of God. I caught a fresh new understanding of the Plan of God. I caught a fresh new reverence for the Sovereignty of God. The Word of God came alive before my eyes, and I SAW the Lord. REALLY saw Him. And it rocked my world.
That’s my prayer for you this week as we open up the rest of this passage of scripture. I pray that you will see God with fresh eyes, an open heart, and a hungering soul. I pray that God will reveal Himself to you in a way that will leave you in total AWE. I pray that this won’t be just one more week where you pass God by without catching a glimpse of who He really is. When Isaiah saw the Lord, he was CHANGED. I pray you will be as well! That’s God’s Word for you today.
