Powerful Words from the Prophets
“With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation! In that wonderful day you will sing: ‘Thank the LORD! Praise his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is!’” – Isaiah 12:3-4 (NLT)

“Drinking Deeply”
I want to key in on the first part of our passage today. “With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation!” When I read that verse, it reminded me of how often we simply take a “taste” of the really important things in life, rather than “drinking deeply” from them. Let me unpack that a bit for you.
Last weekend, I had a friend come to town who has been a friend since 3rd Grade. We’ve shared so much time, life, and experiences together that he is more than just a friend. He’s a BROTHER. But because he lives on the West Coast, we hardly get to see each other. We do call each other and check in on each other from time to time, but it’s not the same. This last week, we had two days of talking, reminiscing, and eating together. For the first time in a long time, we “drank deeply” from the cup of friendship. And it was good.
The same thing happened with Wanda and me a few weeks ago when we got the heavy snow. The world shut down, and we were forced to stay at home. Life slows down in times like that. We got to talk a lot more, and just be together rather than passing each other in our busy lives. We kept saying how it reminded us of the Covid days. We “drank deeply” from the cup of marriage during that time. And it was good.
I realized how most of our time with God is just “taste” times, too. Quick prayers, rushed devotional times, and get through church so we can get on with our day. But isn’t it nice once in a while when we “drink deeply” from the cup of salvation? When we slow down enough to remember how much God has forgiven us for and how far we have come. When we take time to open up each and every part of our lives to God. When we sit with His Word and contemplate a verse, a phrase, or even just a word until it touches us deeply and profoundly.
I want to challenge you to not just “taste” God today. I want you to slow down—enough to listen, enough to hear, and enough to connect. Think about who God is and all He has done for you. Spend some time remembering, reflecting, and reminiscing. “Drink deeply” from your own cup of salvation, and God will remind you of what you’ve been missing! That’s God’s Word for you today.
