“Walking Through the Psalms”
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.” – Psalm 1:3 (NLT)
“Are You Fruitful?”
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.” – Psalm 1:3 (NLT)
“Are You Fruitful?”
Fruitful. Is that a word that you would use to describe your life? It should be. That’s the description here in Psalm 1 of the life of a godly person. Fruitfulness is the outward demonstration of the inward transformation. In other words, what God is doing in our hearts and souls on the inside as we meditate on His Word and commune with His Spirit should change what people see on the outside.
That has a couple of implications. First, there should be a transformation of our demeanor. How we speak, how we interact with others, the attitude with which we address problems, difficulties, setbacks, and challenging people should all be impacted by the work that God is doing within. This is the idea that Paul picks up in Galatians 5 when he says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” This is what our lives look like when we begin to let the God in us OUT!
Another idea of fruitfulness is the concept of productivity. That means that the Spirit of God does not just want to work IN us, but He also wants to work THROUGH us. The Spirit of God does not fill us to simply be GOOD people. He also fills us to be IMPACTFUL people. We buried a wonderful woman in our church this past week who died at the age of 96. Among the many things that were shared about her life was the fact that she taught a 6-year-old girls’ class at church for years. I couldn’t help but wonder how many young girls she helped point toward God along the way. And that was just one of MANY ways her life made a difference. Fruitful!
Let the God in you OUT today! Let His Spirit shine through you in your words, your attitude, and your demeanor. May the Spirit of God shine through you for all to see. And may God make your life one of impact this week. You weren’t saved to sit. You were saved to serve. So be FRUITFUL. That’s God’s Word for you today.
