Powerful Words from the Prophets
“You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.” – Isaiah 9:3 (NLT)
“Thank God for Guiding Grace and Intervening Angels”

I took a father-son trip to Denver this past weekend with my younger son, Nate. It was a BLAST! We got to see the OKC Thunder beat one of their conference rivals, the Denver Nuggets. We took in a professional hockey game, which was a first for both of us. We did some hiking in some of the beautiful areas around Denver. And we ate some incredible food. (Thank God for the hiking!)
But my favorite part of the trip was the hours of conversation we had. We covered a host of topics from politics to religion to personal. Nate wanted to know some of my story from growing up. As I talked about the good, the bad, and the ugly of my growing-up years, I became very aware of something—the incredible grace of God. As I looked back and shared, I thought about how different my life could have been. A different decision here or there could have taken my life on a completely different trajectory. If I stopped going to church as a teenager. If I had chosen to hang out with a different group of my friends. If I had chosen a different college or not gone to college at all. If I married a different woman. Any one of these decisions could have side-tracked or totally wrecked my life. Not only would I not be doing what I’m doing today, but I’m not even sure I would still be alive today.
I wish I could tell you I made the right choices because I was that smart. But I wasn’t. And I’m not. I looked back and could see God’s Hand, God working, God nudging, and God intervening. He let me choose, but His Guiding Grace and His intervening angels of people He put on my path saved me. I LOVE my life today. I love where I’m at, what I’m doing, and who I’m with. I am blessed beyond measure—and it is all because of HIM.
Our passage today is a reminder that though our lives aren’t where they ought to be, God is working on our behalf to guide us to where they need to be. He promised the people through Isaiah that their dark days would give way to hope and promise. A Savior was coming. There were days of joy and victory ahead. Look for the Hand of God around you. Listen for the voice of God speaking to you. Follow the path He is preparing before you. Father to son, friend to friend, please hear my heart. The life you want, the joy you seek, the fulfillment you long for, are all found in HIM! That’s God’s Word for you today.
