“Walking Through the Psalms”
“The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him.” – Psalm 22:27 (NLT)
“It’s Probably Bigger Than You Know”
“The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him.” – Psalm 22:27 (NLT)
“It’s Probably Bigger Than You Know”
The cross seemed like a huge defeat for the disciples. They were doing so well. Crowds were following. People were cheering. Life was good. But then, in a moment, everything changed. Jesus was arrested, tried, and crucified. All their dreams were shattered. They thought they were going to get to be rulers. They thought Jesus came to save Israel from the Roman Empire, and they were going to get to be the new Somebodies. The problem was they were thinking too SMALL. Jesus didn’t come to save Israel. He came to save The World. He didn’t come to take over the Roman Empire. He came to usher in the Kingdom of God.
This verse today from Psalm 22, which was a prophetic psalm about the cross, detailed what Jesus’ plan was: “The WHOLE EARTH will acknowledge the LORD and return to him.” Let the magnitude of that set in for a minute. God’s plan was bigger and broader than they could have imagined. It was also less about them and more about others. That’s usually the case.
Like the disciples, we often get frustrated with God because His plans are often not quite what we imagined. They sometimes take a hard right turn like they did on the night Jesus was arrested. Once in a while, there are things that happen that we just can’t believe are a part of God’s plan. And when we can’t see what God is up to, we’re left shaking our heads and wondering what just happened. The reason is that we, like the disciples, think too small. We think God is up to this one thing, when actually He’s up to MORE. His plans are bigger and broader than our feeble minds can imagine. His plans also include OTHERS. We forget that God cares about the Whole Earth. Not just us. Not just our family. Not just our church. Not just our denomination. Not just our country. ALL people are precious to Him. The disciples couldn’t have imagined that God cared as much about those heathen Gentiles as He did them. But He did. He STILL does. So when God doesn’t operate the way you think He should, just say these words out loud: “It’s not just about ME and MY PLANS.” Maybe then you’ll be open to what God’s REALLY up to. And it’s probably bigger than you know. That’s God’s Word for you today.
