“Walking Through the Psalms”
“For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.” – Psalm 22:24 (NLT)
“Your Resurrection Is Coming!”
“For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.” – Psalm 22:24 (NLT)
“Your Resurrection Is Coming!”
Remember how this Psalm began? “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” I shared with you how this was quoted by Jesus on the cross. We discovered that this Psalm actually has several references to Christ’s experience on the cross and for that reason is considered a “prophetic” psalm. It talks about Jesus being thirsty. It talks about Him being surrounded by His enemies. It talks about how He was mocked, tortured, and slowly died. It even has almost a word-for-word quote about how they joked for Him to save Himself. It mentions how they gambled for His clothes and pierced Him with a spear. It’s a remarkably accurate picture of what the Gospels tell us happened to Jesus. But then you get to our verse for today and remember something else: The cross wasn’t the end for Jesus!
Yes, Jesus was tortured. Yes, He was ridiculed and spit upon. Yes, He was crucified on a cross. But contrary to what the religious leaders thought, and what some people still think, God did not ignore Him or turn His back on Him. God heard the cry of Jesus just as He heard the cry of David. Jesus suffered, died, and was buried in a tomb. But three days later, Jesus rose from the dead! Our crucified Savior became our Resurrected Lord.
Your resurrection is coming, too, my friend. You may be in pain now, but your pain will end. You may be surrounded now, but you will emerge victorious. You may be hanging on by a thread today, but your strength will return. It may seem as if all is lost, but all is not lost. God has not forgotten you. God has not forsaken you. He has not ignored your cries for help or turned a deaf ear to your sorrow. And He will never turn His back on you. This night will end. This time of misery will pass. Just as surely as the sun sets and then rises, your time of sorrow will give way to joy. The cross was not the end for Jesus, and neither will this cross be the end for you. Light will come. Dawn will break. And you will rise from the ashes.
So hold onto hope today. Hold onto the belief that God sees, knows, and hears. Hold onto the knowledge that this Jesus, who holds the keys to death and the grave, also holds the keys to YOUR destiny. Jesus was prepared for the cross. Hundreds of years before the crucifixion ever happened, He saw it coming and prompted David to write about it. He was also prepared for the Resurrection. Get prepared for yours! That’s God’s Word for you today.
