“Walking Through the Psalms”
“The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace purified seven times over.” – Psalm 12:6 (NLT)

“Standing On the Promises Or Wallowing In the Problems?”
Are you “standing on the promises” or “wallowing in the problems?” The answer to that question will tell me all I need to know about your stress and anxiety level today. When we’re wallowing in the problems, we’re filled with fear, dread, despair, and hopelessness. We feel powerless in facing the forces and situations we’re up against. Like a drowning man holding onto an anchor.
If you’re standing on the promises, you’re looking to God. You believe He’s a God of His Word. You believe He’s a God of love. You believe that no matter what this world throws at you or who comes up against you that God is greater. You may be tired, but you’re not quitting. You may have gotten knocked down, but you’re getting up. Life may have knocked the wind out of you, but it hasn’t knocked God’s Spirit out of you. When the Lord is your life raft, you know that even though the old ship may sink, you will still be floating!
I love how David describes God’s Promises in our verse today. “Pure.” These aren’t cheap words or cheesy sayings. These promises are sacred. These promises are trustworthy. These promises are precious. These promises are something you can bank on when you can’t count on anything else.
David is in a time when it feels to him like the enemy is winning. He finds himself on the run. The cloud of darkness seems to just get closer and closer, and it feels as if the earth is giving way beneath his feet. With all that David has relied on having been stripped away, what’s left for David to hold onto? The Promises of God. It is his rock of comfort and his place to stand when the world is falling apart.
So I ask you again. Are you standing on the promises or wallowing in the problems? God gave you His Word as an anchor for your soul when the storms of life blow. Pull up some of those great promises of God and read them again. Claim them as God’s words of strength for your difficult time. God never said life would be easy. But He did say He would be with you every step of the way. Don’t let the whirlpool of the problems around you take you down. Lift up your head and stand on God’s pure, precious, and powerful promises! That’s God’s Word for you today.
