“Walking Through the Psalms”
“Overlook my youthful sins, O Lord! Look at me instead through eyes of mercy and forgiveness, through eyes of everlasting love and kindness.” – Psalm 25:7 (TLB)

“You’re a Video, Not a Snapshot”
It’s interesting how the internet and social media have changed how we view people. Now things you did many years ago can be brought back up to haunt you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve changed. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances were. It doesn’t matter if you repented and are a completely different person today. If it was captured on camera or recorded somewhere for someone to bring up, you run the risk of being judged NOW for what you did or said THEN.
Sometimes, even if decades have passed, people will often judge you by the old snapshot, regardless of what you’re like today. And can I be honest? Who of us hasn’t done something, said something, or thought something at one time that we’re not proud of? But I don’t think any of us want to be remembered by our WORST moment in life.
Aren’t you glad God doesn’t do that? What David expresses as a prayer is actually a statement about God, not just a request. When God looks at us, He looks at us through His eyes of Grace. Those eyes, as David describes, are eyes of “mercy and forgiveness” and “everlasting love and kindness.” God doesn’t see us as a snapshot. He sees our lives as a video. Yes, He knows exactly where we’ve been and what we’ve done. He’s well aware of our worst moments in life. He’s also aware of our painful consequences, our broken hearts, our prayers of repentance, and our changed ways. He not only knows where we’ve been, He sees where we’re going. He not only has witnessed the people we used to be, He sees the people we’re becoming. So if someone brings up the “old you” and wants to use it to shame you, embarrass you, or hurt you, remember this verse. If the Enemy tries to throw up the past to you and beat you down with guilt and shame, remember this verse. And if you’re wondering today how God feels about you, re-read this verse. “Mercy and forgiveness,” “everlasting love and kindness.” That’s how God sees you. That’s how He feels. You’re a video, not a snapshot. And the BEST part is still ahead! That’s God’s Word for you today.
