“Walking Through the Psalms”
“The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.” – Psalm 18:4-6 (NLT)

“Our Lives Are in His Hands”
Not long ago, during one of my prayer walks, I thanked the Lord for all the times His Hand of Protection saved me. There were two different times when I was a child that I could have easily drowned. God intervened, and someone pulled me out. There was another time when I was in about fifth grade that my cousin brought his minibike to my grandparents’ farm. He let me ride it even though I had never ridden a motorized vehicle like that before. I zoomed down the lane, then across a 4-lane highway before crashing. I knew how to make it go but didn’t know how to stop it. God spared me from being hit by a car.
Then there was the time in junior high when I was riding on the handlebars of a friend’s bike. He accidently went off a curb and crashed, throwing me into the middle of a busy street. A car screeched to a stop just inches from my head. As an adult, I’ve been a passenger in a vehicle in three different crashes where I could have been killed and one where I was the driver. As I walked and prayed and thought about all these, I laughed and said, “My Guardian Angel probably filed for early retirement!”
That’s when it hit me that these were just the ones I could remember or knew about. I wonder how many other times my life was at risk or death could have happened, but God stepped in and spared me. It was a reminder to me that my God is truly my Protector, my Rescuer, and The One who watches over me. He has snatched me from death time and again. My life is truly in His Hands.
I’d encourage you to take a moment today to remember your own times of rescue and deliverance. As you thank God for His protection, remind yourself that these are only the ones you’re aware of. Thank Him today for the ones you’re NOT aware of. Rest today in knowing that the Lord is watching over you, and He holds YOU in the palm of His Hand. That’s God’s Word for you today.
