“Walking Through the Psalms”

“For All the Annes of Green Gables”
Wanda is making us watch the movie, “Anne of Green Gables.” We’re going to be visiting Prince Edward Island where the story is based on a cruise this October, so she thought I needed some historical background. As an action/superhero/romantic comedy kind of guy, I sat down to the movie not expecting much. But within minutes I was bouncing between tears and uncontrolled laughter.
My laughter was at the over-the-top personality that Anne had. What a Drama Queen! She may be the most precocious character I’ve ever seen portrayed. My tears were the result of how Anne was treated as an orphan and the very sad way that she saw herself as ugly, unwanted, and unloved. She felt she was a burden, an inconvenience, and unworthy. She lived in her imagination because reality was just too hard for her to bear. How I wish Anne could read and understand the words of David today.
A few days ago, I made the statement that we’ll never understand the significance and worth of our lives until we understand the magnificence of God. After David spends a few verses reminding us how awesome and incredible God is, look at what he says. “Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.” We were made just a little lower than God! YOU were made just a little lower than God!! You are made in God’s image. It is His Breath in your lungs. It is He who gives you life, and it is He who has defined your worth. We are the offspring of Divine Royalty. Our lives radiate His glory and honor. Though many of us are like Anne and believe that we are mistakes or misfits who are ugly, unwanted, and unworthy, God says, “NO!” You are His Child, and you are precious, priceless, and PERFECT!
Ah, today Anne, you don’t have to use your imagination. You don’t have to dream of being beautiful, talented and loved. You are! You don’t have to imagine yourself being of royal birth. You are! You don’t have to fear being left again, unwanted again, or tossed aside again. Your Father loves you with an everlasting love and will never leave you or forsake you. Look in the mirror today and see what God sees: His beautiful child in whom He is well pleased! That’s God’s Word for you today.
