“Walking Through the Psalms”
“I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.” – Psalm 17:6 (NLT)
“On Bended Knee”
“I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.” – Psalm 17:6 (NLT)
“On Bended Knee”
I love kids. I especially like making kids feel as if they’re important. So when a small child comes up to say something to me, I try to get down on one or both knees to be more eye-to-eye with them. (The getting down is no problem. It’s the getting up that’s getting ever more challenging!) I believe kids like that. I think it makes them feel that they’re heard. I want them to know that, as their pastor or friend, I hear them and will respond to them. I CARE for them.
That’s the picture that came to my mind as I read David’s words today. David affirms that he has NO DOUBT that God hears him. In fact, he has full confidence that God will answer him. God may or may not give David exactly what he wants, but of this he is certain: God will bend down close and listen. Picture that image for a moment. Most kings would have others bow before them when they bring their requests or needs. This King bends down to those in need!
God bends down to listen to YOU as well. You don’t have to yank on His leg or stomp your feet to get His attention. You don’t have to yell, scream, or throw things because He’s preoccupied with “more important” people. You don’t have to pout, cry, whine, complain, or make Him feel sorry for you. God loves you. He honestly ADORES you! He sees you coming before you ever get to Him, and He already knows what’s on your mind. He gets down on His knee and leans into you as you speak.
He not only hears your words; He hears your HEART. He LISTENS. No, He won’t always give you exactly what you want. But He will hear you, and He will answer you. You’re important to Him, and He cares about you. So whatever is on your heart today, take it to Him. Even if everyone else in your world seems to be ignoring you, God never will. Feel His love for you as you draw near to Him. You have His full and undivided attention. More than that. You have His Heart. That’s God’s Word for you today.
