“Walking Through the Psalms”
“The LORD is my shepherd…” – Psalm 23:1a (NLT)
“Trust the Shepherd”
“The LORD is my shepherd…” – Psalm 23:1a (NLT)
“Trust the Shepherd”
This Psalm is the most popular Psalm and one of the most well-known passages in the Bible. The image of God being our Shepherd is one of great comfort and peace. At least, it should be, since WE are the ones who get to be His Sheep!
And what an amazing Shepherd we have. Shepherds are STRONG. Living out in the wild isn’t a job for sissies. He’s ready to take on any wild animals that attack us. He’s not afraid of anyone or anything we come up against. Shepherds are WISE. He’s got an eye on the weather, on our surroundings, and on us to know how we’re doing. Shepherds are RESOURCEFUL. He knows what we need and where to find it. Shepherds are also CARING. There are countless scriptures that talk about how God, as our Shepherd, carries us close to His Heart. He knows each of us by name. He knows what we’ve been through. He was there when we were born and has watched us closely each day of our lives. He knows our quirks, our tendencies, and our weaknesses. How much does He care? Well, He’s willing to lay down His life for us.
Why not let Him be YOUR Shepherd today? Instead of making yourself crazy trying to control everything, you can let HIM be in charge. You can relax and let Him run the universe while you simply live and enjoy today’s particular pasture. You don’t have to worry. He’s watching you. He knows what you’re up to. He knows the terrain that you’re in and how to help you through it.
You can TRUST Him. You don’t have to carry all that stress and all that anxiety and all that fear around like you are. Put the full weight of all that upon Him. If you’re feeling a little shaky, draw close to Him. He’ll let you walk right beside Him. If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, ask Him to stroke your head with His Hand and remind you He has you. If you’re exhausted or hurt and just can’t go one more step, ask Him to lift you with His mighty arms. You can rest on His broad shoulders for a while. And if you’re in trouble, as we sheep tend to be sometimes, call out to Him. He’ll come to you right where you are to help you out. He won’t beat you or berate you or tell you how stupid you are. He’ll lift you up, brush you off, and help you get back on your feet. He’s a Good Shepherd. He’s a Gracious Shepherd. He’s a Loving Shepherd. And YOU are one of His Lambs that He loves. That’s God’s Word for you today.
