“Walking Through the Psalms”
“Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.” – Psalm 16:1 (NLT)

“Keep me safe, O God”
“Keep me safe, O God.” Do those words of David resonate with you today?Maybe the company you’re working for is going through some transitions or a change of ownership. Or maybe you’ve caught wind of cutbacks or people being laid off. Or perhaps you’ve been dealing with a difficult boss and are just afraid for your job. When things are so precarious, maybe “Keep me safe, O God” is the perfect prayer for you.
That same prayer may fit for those of you who may be flying or traveling this week. The recent rash of plane crashes tends to make all of us nervous, whether we’re normally anxious about flying or not. Or maybe you’re driving, and you’re worried about the “crazies” out there on the road, or the threat of weather, or just the vulnerability of being away from home. Traveling is always an appropriate time to pray, “Keep me safe, O God.”
I know some of you are like me and are facing some health tests, check-ups, or surgery this week. I don’t know about you, but “minor surgery” is only surgery on someone else! It’s normal to wonder what the doctor is going to say. It’s only human to be concerned about what the tests are going to show. And there’s always a bit of fear when surgery is taking place. Let’s take those things to the Great Physician today and pray together, “Keep me safe, O God.”
Actually, I think this prayer of David is a good prayer to pray at the beginning of EVERY week. Life changes in a moment. There are so many things that are not only beyond our ability to know but also beyond our power to control. Putting our lives in the hands of God sounds like a great step of faith and dedication. The Lord is our Refuge. He is the one who watches over us and is our Protector. So as we begin this week, let’s confess that we don’t know what this week holds. But we DO KNOW who holds this week! So let’s give this week to Him, and with confidence and faith we pray, “Keep me safe, O God.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
