“It’s All About Jesus!”
“The Woman at the Well”
“But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” – John 4:11-14 (NLT)

“Something More”
Do you know what the struggle was for the woman at the well? It’s the same as ours. A lack of imagination. When Jesus talked about offering her “living water,” she couldn’t think beyond a well and a bucket and quenching the thirst of the dry throats of people and animals. She had no idea that Jesus was talking about something else, about something MORE.
She was thinking about something coming out of the ground. Jesus was talking about something that flows out of the Spirit of God. She was thinking about something that would help a dry mouth. Jesus was talking about something that could rejuvenate a dry soul. She was thinking about something that would satisfy for a moment. Jesus was talking about something that would satisfy for an eternity. It was more than she could wrap her mind around.
It’s the same struggle that all of us have when Jesus invites us to let go of the shallow and earthly in order seize hold of the deeper and more divine. Like when He asks us to let go of earthly pleasures and trade them for true joy. Like when He asks us to let go of superficial relationships in order to experience real love. Like when He challenges us to lay down our pride in order that we might know what it’s like to live with purpose and significance. It’s funny how tightly we cling to the things that won’t last, simply because they are the things that we know. Faith takes us to Something More.
What’s the “Something More” that Jesus is inviting YOU to today? What might He be inviting you to let go of so He can give you something better? What steps of faith might He be asking you to take so that He can lead you to places you’ve never been? Are you ready to think deeper and wider and bigger and longer than a bucket and a rope? Jesus is inviting YOU to Something More! That’s God’s Word for you today.
