“It’s All About Jesus!”
“The Woman at the Well”
Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” – John 4:6-7 (NLT)

“You Can Run, but You Can’t Hide!”
George Parker stole a car a few years ago in Beachwood, New Jersey. He was spotted in a nearby town called Toms River. A police officer began following him while calling for backup. Parker thought he’d be sneaky, so after he turned down a side street, he quickly pulled up in a driveway and turned off the lights. He figured he would blend right in. You can imagine how surprised he was when a police officer quickly walked up to the car and tapped on the window. Parker had pulled into the driveway of Michael Mastronardy. Michael happened to be the Police Chief for Toms River and was in one of the patrol cars following Parker.
My guess is the woman at the well felt a bit like George Parker. You don’t go to the well at noon expecting to see people. Water was normally drawn first thing in the morning or late in the day before evening. She certainly wasn’t expecting to find a man at the well. Drawing water was a woman’s job. The fact that this man would turn out to be the Messiah would blow her mind.
We’ll discover in the next few passages that the woman came to the well at noon so she could hide. She had a past. A sad, embarrassing past. The people of the community were well aware of who she was and the kind of woman she’d been. Coming to the well at noon was a way of not having to hear the other women whisper about her, nod her way, or see their disapproving glares. And while it’s hard to always hide from the people in your community, she was about to make a startling discovery. It's IMPOSSIBLE to hide from God.
Jesus is waiting at the well for YOU today. You don’t have to hide your guilt from Him. He knows all about what you’ve done. You don’t have to hide your pain. He’s already cried tears on your behalf. You don’t have to hide your fears, your doubts, your disappointment, or your grief. All those things you try to keep tucked away so no one sees, Jesus has already seen. In fact, that’s why He’s at the well. Before the woman at the well even knew who Jesus was, He was already waiting there for her with all the grace, forgiveness, and acceptance she’d always longed for. Jesus waits for YOU with open arms, too. Discover today what the woman was about to discover. You can run from Jesus, but you just can’t hide. That’s God’s Word for you today.
