“The Power of a Single Seed”
Have you ever thought about the power of a single seed? When a farmer goes out scattering seeds, he’s not just throwing out little meaningless morsels of grain. He’s throwing out the beginning of a harvest. He’s planting future banquets, future celebrations, and future meals. He’s putting in the ground a tiny capsule of LIFE!
Jesus shares that the farmer is a perfect picture of the work of God in our lives. Every single day, God is planting SEEDS. Sometimes those seeds are a thought that He gives us. Sometimes those seeds are an internal nudge by His Holy Spirit. Sometimes those seeds are a paragraph or a verse, or sometimes even just a single word of Scripture. But those little seeds are the capsules of Divine Activity. They are full of power, growth, and life.
Some people find God giving them the seed of a word that is their word for the year. It might be a word like “Courage.” It could be a word like “Listen.” Whatever the word, it becomes a powerful framework for what God is up to in their lives. And it’s often life-changing. Other seeds may be a verse of Scripture that God gives you for a certain chapter in your life. It might be a verse of hope, faith, or patience. It becomes a strong handle to hang onto as you go through a difficult or challenging time.
Seeds may come out of a conversation, a book, or a sermon. Those seeds may be something that God desires to do through you, and He uses those vehicles to plant that seed. Many of us can point to moments in time when God planted a seed in our hearts that turned into the beginning of a new ministry or even a new career. God often changes our course through the planting of one single seed.
Jesus reminds us that God has seeds for ALL of us. These seeds are precious gifts that are packed with exactly what we need for the time that we are in. Don’t brush those seeds off. Don’t read Scripture with an aloofness because you already know what it says. God can speak New Things through familiar words. Don’t blow off a nudge because you think it's silly. Your “silly” may be a sacred moment for someone else. God is planting seeds. I wonder what He may be wanting to plant in YOU! That’s God’s Word for you today.
