Questions Jesus Asked
“When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’” - Matthew 9:28 (NIV)
“He’s Able”
I love the question Jesus poses in this passage. Two blind men heard He was near and began to follow Him, crying out for Jesus to have mercy on them. By that, they meant they wanted Jesus to heal them. When they got inside, Jesus asked them the question, “Do you believe that I am able?” In other words, were you just making noise, or do you really have faith?
When I read this today, my mind went back to the Book of Daniel and the story of the three Hebrews, Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego. These three men refused to bow down and worship the idol that was fashioned by King Nebuchadnezzar. The punishment for refusing to worship was death. But when the king gave the men one more chance before being thrown into the furnace, they responded with, “Our God whom we serve IS ABLE to save us! But even if He doesn’t, we will not bow down.” Their faith was rewarded with God joining them in the fire so that when they came out, not only were they not burned, they didn’t even SMELL of smoke!
God is able! Say that out loud today. God is ABLE to heal. God is ABLE to save. God is ABLE to do whatever it is that we need Him to do today. He’s able to supply that job that you’re looking for. He’s able to provide for that need that you have. He’s able to deliver, able to open doors, and able to make a way even when there seems to be no way available. Our God is ABLE!
I was reflecting today on several BIG prayers that I’ve prayed over the last couple of years. In all of them, I had no control and no ability to make them happen. In all of them, I heard God say to me, “Do you believe I am able?” As I surrendered them to Him, in each case He proved Himself faithful and true and ABLE. Lay your needs before Him today. As you put them in His Hands declare with faith, “Lord, I believe you’re ABLE!” That’s God’s Word for you today.
