“It’s All About Jesus!”
The Temptation of Jesus (Luke 4:1-14)
Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry. – Luke 4:1-2 (NLT)

“Are You Charged Up?”
Do you charge up your electronic devices every night? Of course, you do. In fact, I’ll bet some of you have woken up angry at some point because you forgot to charge them up or something happened where they didn’t get the charge, and you panic that you’re going to run out of battery. You NEED that Apple watch. You NEED that cell phone. Your life will STOP if your laptop dies. Anyone who has had a device go dead when they’ve needed it the most understands how incredibly frustrating that is.
Did you ever stop to think that our souls need that daily charging as well? We never know what a new day will bring. We don’t know what troubles we’ll face, struggles we’ll have to overcome, or temptations that we’ll need the strength to resist. But like our devices, if we wait until that moment of challenge comes, it may be too late. We may not have enough power in our spirits to do what needs to be done. That’s why we need to stay charged up.
I thought of that as I read our passage today. Jesus was heading into a time of testing. He was going to go without food for forty days and his body would be weak and hungry. He was going to be isolated in the wilderness without friends and family, so He would have no one there to help Him. He was going to go toe-to-toe with the Devil himself, so He was going to need all the spiritual strength He could muster. So Jesus didn’t wait until He got to His time of testing to get ready. Look at what the passage says. “Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit…was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days.” Did you catch that? Jesus was FULL. He was ready. He was charged up. That’s how we need to be as well.
Take time to charge up today. Plug into God’s Word. Draw power from spending some time in the presence of God. Let God pour Himself into you today BEFORE you meet the Devil head-on. When temptation or problems come, all you have to draw from is what you’ve filled up with. Plug into God’s Power so you’ll be ready for the Devil when He comes. Charge up! That’s God’s Word for you today.
