“It’s All About Jesus!”
Jesus and the Official’s Son (John 4:43-54)
While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well. He asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied, “Yesterday afternoon at one o’clock his fever suddenly disappeared!” Then the father realized that that was the very time Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and his entire household believed in Jesus. This was the second miraculous sign Jesus did in Galilee after coming from Judea. – John 4:51-54 (NLT)

“God Winks”
While I was pastoring in Phoenix, there was a church on the west side that had a group of women who regularly met for prayer. They would pray for the needs of people in the group, the needs of people in the church, and the needs that they were aware of around the community. One day as they were praying, the leader of the group said, “I feel led that we need to pray for our pastor’s daughter. For some reason, I feel like she is in mortal danger.” So, they agreed together for the next several minutes, asking God for protection and intervention. You can imagine the emotions they felt later when they discovered that the daughter was involved in a serious car accident, but miraculously escaped with no injuries. Those emotions got ramped up another notch or two when they discovered that the accident occurred at the EXACT TIME they were praying! That’s what you call a God Wink.
God winks are those “coincidences” that aren’t really a coincidence at all. They are simply God moving at the exact time we need Him. They are God doing something totally unexpected that turns out to be something PERFECT for when it happens. It’s God answering prayer THERE at the exact time we are praying HERE. It’s God letting us know that He really is God. He’s watching, He’s listening, and He’s moving. Sometimes in ways that are overwhelming and extraordinary.
When the father headed home in our passage today, he got a God wink. His son was not only healed, he was healed at the exact time Jesus said the word. The father’s God wink bolstered his faith. As he shared what had happened with others, it rocked their world, and they, too, believed. God winks are powerful gifts. We should cherish them dearly and share them openly. They become handles of faith that we can all hold onto.
What’s YOUR God wink story? It’s not a coincidence. It’s a God-incidence. Don’t be afraid to brag on Heavenly Father. Others need to know that He can touch their lives, too. That’s God’s Word for you today.
