“It’s All About Jesus!”
Jesus & the Wedding in Cana
When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” – John 2:9-10 (NLT)

“Better”
Some years ago, I had a friend who had asked me to pray with him about a job he had applied for. He was really excited about the opportunity and was sure that this was the “dream job” that God was saving for him. After he went through the interviewing process, he was turned down for the position. He was devastated. He felt let down by God, and his faith was truly shaken. Later, another job opened up. It was a better fit, with better pay, and it seemed like a much better group to work with. When he got that job, he thought about how upset with God he had been. Sometimes it’s only in hindsight that we see the truth about God’s will and way for our lives. It’s BETTER.
I want you to camp on this thought this week. It’s a truth we all need to claim, stand on, and find hope in. God’s way is BETTER. Running out of wine at a wedding was a disaster. This is until Jesus stepped in with some huge jars of water. Most people wouldn’t have thought that to be a good substitute. But the water-turned-to-wine was BETTER. The same is true for us as we seek God and trust Him to lead, guide, and sustain us. His plans are BETTER than our plans. His ways are BETTER than our ways. His paths are BETTER than the paths we would choose for ourselves. It may not come the way we want it. It may not come in the timing we would choose. It may not be the way we had thought it would be. But always, without fail, when we yield our way to His way, it is always BETTER.
Let that truth guide how you pray this week. Let that truth undergird how you respond to opportunities, circumstances, and setbacks. Rest in the fact that even if your “dream whatever” falls apart, God has something else in mind. And that something else is BETTER. That’s God’s Word for you today.
