“It’s All About Jesus!”

“YOUR Kingdom Come!”
Jesus on Prayer

“YOUR Kingdom Come!”
This part of the Lord’s Prayer may be the most difficult part for us to pray. That is if we understand what it is that we’re praying. This is the recognition of God as King. This is where we’re acknowledging God’s authority over all things. This is where we proclaim that we want God to take charge over this world and all that is in it.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Steve, why do you say this part is difficult to pray? I DO want God to rule!” I’m sure you do. I’m sure that we all do. But what we really mean is that we want God to rule over THEM. You know, “those people.” They’re a mess. They’re out of control. God NEEDS to exercise His authority and power and get them straightened out.
But here’s the hard part. Do we really want God to rule in OUR domain? Are we really open to submitting to His authority in every area of our lives? You see, to say that God is King of Kings, or King Over The Universe are phrases that easily roll off our lips. But how about declaring Him King over your home, your marriage, or your parenting? How about declaring Him as King over how you spend your time, how you spend your money, or how much time you spend on your phone? How about declaring Him King over where you go, who you hang out with, or what you look at on your computer? How about declaring Him King over how you treat others, how you talk to others, and what you do (or don’t do) for others? We love the idea of God being in control. We just don’t like the idea of Him being in control of US. Ever since the Garden of Eden, we have tried to be the Kings and Queens of our domain. We want the blessings of God, the protection of God, and the help of God. But we balk pretty hard when it comes to the rule of God.
Today, I challenge you to do that which is MOST DIFFICULT. I challenge you to take a moment to visualize yourself taking the crown off your head and laying it at the feet of Jesus. I challenge you to surrender the rule of your domain—all you have, all you are, and all you do to the rule and control of God. Pray “Your Kingdome come…and begin, O Lord, with ME!” Because that’s the kind of prayer that can change your life. That’s God’s Word for you today.
