“It’s All About Jesus!”

“The Unknown Heroes”
This is Passion Week. The most Holy Week of the Christian calendar starts today with what we know as Palm Sunday. For Jesus, there will be a huge parade with throngs of people. There will be an intense week of ministry and a last, intimate dinner with His Disciples. Then a betrayal, an arrest, an abandonment, a trial, a beating, a crown of thorns and a cross of shame. Finally, there will be THE defining moment in human history—the Resurrection. But all of this begins with two unknown people just doing what Jesus told them to do.
I want you to let that sink in for a minute. Two nameless disciples carry out a simple task that Jesus asked them to do. They had no idea of the significance of their act. They were the first dominoes that would start a chain reaction of events that would constitute the most sacred week of all time. Their feat wasn’t amazing. They were simply going to go to a certain place, pick up the designated donkey, and come back. My guess is they probably thought that what they were doing was a pretty meaningless task that wasn’t all that important. It was something anyone could do. Can you imagine how they would have reacted if someone had told them we would still be talking about them 2000 years later? I’m sure they would have laughed out loud.
They were right, though. What they were doing was something anyone could have done. But that’s how most of the amazing things of God are done. They’re done by ordinary people who are just doing what Jesus told them to do.
Keep that in mind this week. When God asks you to do something, it may have more significance than you know. Yes, your task may be a simple one, and it may not seem to be all that important. But then again, it may be the first domino in a much bigger picture. The great plans of God don’t usually start with amazing people performing historic feats of strength. They start with simple people being humbly obedient to the everyday things God asks them to do. Those people are the Unknown Heroes. That’s God’s Word for you today.
