“Silent Saturday”
Do you ever wonder where Jesus was on the Saturday before the Resurrection? Was He still in the grave? Did He go to some unknown, spiritual waiting room? Some people, based on words in Peter’s letters, think that Jesus visited Hell. One thing is sure. He wasn’t yet making Himself known to His Disciples or His Family. All during the days before there was noise. There was the loud celebration of His entry into Jerusalem. There were the screams of agony from the cross. On Sunday there were shouts of joy and awe. But on Saturday, there was silence. Saturday may be the hardest day for all of us.
After the shocking events on Friday, the Disciples were hiding in fear. They were blinded by the death of their dreams for the future. They were paralyzed by uncertainty and confusion. They had no idea what to do next. What would happen to them? Where could they go? What kind of lives could they live? The trauma of the cross had them stuck in a tar pit of hopelessness and unanswered questions. And on the day when they needed to hear from God the most, He was silent.
I’ll bet many of YOU have had your own “Silent Saturday.” You lost your job, and you’re waiting on God to show you what’s next. You got a devastating diagnosis with multiple options of treatment, and you’re waiting for God to show you which one is best. You lost your parents, your spouse, or your child, and you’re trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of your life again. Trauma has a way of clouding our minds, numbing our emotions, and paralyzing our lives. Quite frankly, it’s the time we need to HEAR from God, FEEL God, and BE LED by God the MOST! Yet, in those moments, God sometimes seems to take a long, deep breath before He speaks or acts. It is a terrifying moment for us. But for God, it is simply a grand pause in the symphony of His Plan.
Take another look at our verse today. “The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time.” This is the verse we cling to on our Silent Saturdays. God may be silent, but that does not mean He is not moving. We may not be able to see Him, but that does not mean He is not working. We may not feel Him, but that does not mean that He is absent. Claim this verse with hope and confidence today. The same God who knew your Friday before it ever happened also knows that Sunday is on the way. Your Silent Saturday may feel like the longest day of your life. But it won’t last. The sun will rise. The dawn will break. Hold on to God’s Promise until the darkness of your Silent Saturday has passed. Your resurrection is NEAR! That’s God’s Word for you today.
