Powerful Words from the Prophets
But when the queen mother heard what was happening, she hurried to the banquet hall. She said to Belshazzar, “Long live the king! Don’t be so pale and frightened. There is a man in your kingdom who has within him the spirit of the holy gods. During Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, this man was found to have insight, understanding, and wisdom like that of the gods…He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.” – Daniel 5:10-12 (NLT)
“Would They Come Looking for ME?”

“Would They Come Looking for ME?”
Daniel was old by the time this incident happened with Belshazzar. Probably around 81. That’s most likely why he wasn’t with the group of royal “wise men” who couldn’t figure out the handwriting on the wall. But the queen remembered Daniel. She knew how he had been able to discern Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams when no one else could. He wasn’t like the brash, wanting-to-be-noticed wise guys who only pretended to have insight. In fact, I LOVE the way she described him. “There is a man in your kingdom who has within him the spirit of the holy gods.”
When I read this, there were two thoughts that hit me. One was, “Who do WE look to when we need deep insight and wisdom?” I mean, when there’s truly a lot at stake, and we need to get it right, what kind of person do WE seek out? Sometimes we seek out friends who don’t have any more wisdom than we do. Or sometimes we ask AI, which can give us information, but not WISDOM. Listen very carefully to this. Godly counsel can only come from godly people. When the stakes are high, you need to hear from the Spirit of God. That comes from the Word of God and those individuals who have the Spirit of God within them.
Another thought that hit me was one I think we all ought to ask ourselves. “Would they have come looking for ME?” If people were trying to think of individuals who they believe possess the Spirit of God, would they think of us? Do we live in a way that demonstrates the wisdom of God? Do our lives reflect the presence and peace of God? Are we more like Daniel, whom people felt was truly godly? Or are we more like the religious men of the king’s court who put on a good show, but don’t come across as possessing the Spirit of God? I think I’ll sit with that question for the rest of the day and let God speak to me about that. You might want to do the same. That’s God’s Word for you today.
