“Relax. We Win.”

My wife and I record every OKC Thunder game that’s played. Often, even when it’s a home game that we got to attend in person, I’ll still watch it again. Especially if it was an exciting or close game. What’s funny is how emotionally wrapped up I get in the recorded game when I already know the outcome! If someone on the Thunder makes a bad pass or turns the ball over, I’ll yell, “What are you doing?!” Sometimes, especially if it’s a close game, I have to remind myself. “Relax. We win.” That usually helps to bring my blood pressure down a bit.
I think we all need to do that from time to time when we get too caught up in the craziness of this world. “Russia is going to bomb us!” “Iran is planning another 9/11!” “The economy is going to collapse!” “A new strain of COVID is going to break out!” And my personal favorite: “The (Democrats or Republicans) are going to take over the country!” Please hear my heart. I’m not saying that there aren’t things that should concern us or that we need to be aware of. What I AM saying is that, at the end of all of this madness we call life here on earth, those of us who are the Children of God are a part of a Kingdom that will last for eternity. No matter what happens, we win!
Daniel reminds us of this as he tells the king what he dreamed and what it meant. God gives the king a foreshadowing of the future. There will be one kingdom after another, each a bit different than the one before it. But all of these kingdoms of men will eventually give way to the Kingdom of God. The Rock (Jesus) will show Himself as the true King of Kings, and His Kingdom will be established forever. That truth was so overwhelming that even Nebuchadnezzar bowed before Daniel in humble recognition of the God who reigns.
Yes, there will be chaos upon this earth. Yes, governments shall rise and fall, diseases will spread, and disasters will happen. But our Jesus remains the same, yesterday, today, and forever. He is our Rock. He is our Stability. He is our Peace. And He is our King. The nations of the earth will go through all the motions, but the game has already been played. You can relax. We win. That’s God’s Word for you today.
