Powerful Words from the Prophets
“But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including Israel, his own special possession. The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is his name!” – Jeremiah 10:16 (NLT)
“You and HIS Armies!”

When I read our passage today, I laughed. It took me back to my childhood days of playing and arguing with friends. Our neighborhood of boys played a lot of sports together, which meant we had a lot of arguments with each other. They were usually arguments about whether a player was out in baseball, whether a player was offside in football, or whether a foul was committed in basketball. If the argument got heated enough, someone would often threaten to beat up the other guy. To which the other guy would often say, “Oh yeah? You and whose army?!” Have you ever heard those words before?
Jeremiah reminds us in our passage that when we have the Lord on our side, we have HIS army on our side. What a comforting thought as we’re facing the challenges of the day. Think about it. I’ve heard a couple of different people comment this last week about feeling as if the Enemy has been after them. Trying to scare them. Trying to discourage them. Trying to isolate them. What an incredible encouragement to know that we don’t have to face the Enemy alone! Not only is “the one who is in us greater than the one who is in the world,” but we have all of His Armies fighting on our side as well. Bring it on, Devil! You’re already beat!!
Some of us may be walking through circumstances where we’re feeling very alone. Maybe we’re dealing with several challenges on lots of fronts—physically, financially, emotionally, as well as spiritually. It’s easy to feel quite overwhelmed in times like that and believe we’re struggling all on our own. But we’re not! The Lord is with us! His people are with us! And all the Armies of Heaven are with us! Whatever you’re fighting against today, I can assure you that you are not going into battle alone. You have ARMIES on your side!
Stand strong today. Don’t cower or run or hide. Look square into the face of whatever you’re facing and declare that you are not backing down. You will stand firm. You will stand strong. You will fight, forge ahead, and be victorious. You WILL overcome. You are one of the invincible, unconquerable, Children of God. You’re not facing the world all by yourself today. It’s You and His Armies! That’s God’s Word for you today.
