Powerful Words from the Prophets
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 4:28-31 (NLT)

“What You Need When You Need It”
On May 20th, 2013, we experienced a massive tornado here in Moore, OK. Some 1200 homes were completely leveled, and another 11,000-12,000 were damaged. Twenty-four people died, and hundreds were hurt. Over 2 billion dollars’ worth of damage was done. As I walked through the damage, it took my breath away. I couldn’t even imagine how long it was going to take to clean up the mess, much less rebuild. It was a daunting task.
But God is good. The community went to work, and helpers began to arrive from all around the country. People gave up their vacations to lend a hand. Donations came in from everywhere. Piles of rubble were pushed to the curb, and repairs and reconstruction began quickly. Within a year, you had to know where to look to even spot the damage the tornado had done. From decimation to transformation. It seemed to me an impossible task. But God saw us through.
Isaiah reminds us in our passage today that God will give us what we need when we need it. As the Jews faced the overwhelming task of returning to their destroyed homes and city, it had to take their breath away. How would this be done? Do they have the strength and the resources to do it? The answer to those questions is one of the great statements of Jesus: “What is impossible for man, is possible with God!” God HAS the strength for the task. God will give them the strength for the task. God will provide what they need when they need it. Restoration and reconstruction are what God does BEST!
Remember that today. God will give YOU what you need when you need it! He will help you SOAR to levels you’ve achieved before. He will help you RUN through your busy day, helping you do more than you ever thought possible. Or He will help you WALK that long, seemingly never-ending road you're on. His strength is YOUR strength. He doesn’t give up. He doesn’t get tired. And He doesn’t let go. Come hell or high water, or EF5 tornado, trust in the Lord, and He will see you through! That’s God’s Word for you today.
(And for those of you who heard I announced that I will be retiring next year, I DO plan on continuing to write my daily devotional… especially since I’ll have more time!)
