This verse should give you great comfort. It might also disturb you a bit. God knows your heart. That means when everyone else is accusing you of stuff you know isn’t true, you can rest assured that God knows better. When someone misinterprets your actions and thinks you had bad intentions, when in fact you did not, God knows. When you’ve busted your backside and worked as hard as you possibly could, and your boss accuses you of not giving enough, God knows. When you’ve been in a relationship that is abusive and toxic and is destroying you from the inside out, and you finally decide enough is enough and walk away, and some well-intentioned dragon tells you that you should’ve worked harder at it, God knows. God knows how much you care. God knows how much you give. God knows how hard you try. God knows all the wonderful and good that is inside you that sometimes others don’t even notice. God examines your heart. He sees that good stuff. Rest assured, He knows.
The disturbing part is that God knows all that other stuff, too. He knows how selfish we can be. He knows all those times we really did cut corners and didn’t give someone or something our best when they truly deserved it. God knows our hypocrisy. He knows how we covet. He knows how we lust. He knows how we secretly hope that someone messes up because, somehow, in our sick thinking, we think that makes us look better. God knows our deep, dark secrets. He knows our jealousies, our unforgiveness, and our pride. We can put on whatever kind of show we want for all those around us. But we can’t fool God. He examines our hearts. He knows.
God knows the good, the bad, and the ugly. You know what’s wild? He loves us anyway. Fully, completely, and unconditionally. God sees past our blemishes. He also sees past our makeup. He looks right through all of what we try to project and all that we try to hide. God sees straight through to the core of who we are. The good news for you today is that you don’t have to prove anything to God or hide anything from God. He already knows. All you need to do is open your heart up to God and rest in the most incredible truth in the world. The One who knows you best, loves you the most. He always has, and He always will. That’s God’s Word for you today.
