Walking Through the Psalms

“That Has to Be God”
What in your life can only be explained by saying, “God did it”? Where is the evidence of His life-changing power? Where is the evidence of His redeeming grace? Where would someone say is the undeniable mark of God upon you? Those are the questions that I was asking myself after I read our verse for today. I want to be more than a nice guy. I want to be more than a good pastor. I want to be more than another person who lives under the moniker of being called “Christian.” I want there to be something about my life that reminds people of God. Something that impacts people for God. Something that draws people to God. I want people to see something that makes them say, “That has to be God!” I want to do something that makes them say, “That has to be God!” I want to live with the kind of faith, courage, and love that makes people say, “That has to be God!” Does my life truly point people to The One that I say that I live for? That’s the question that is haunting me today. I hope it haunts you, too.
I’m speaking at a state youth convention in Ohio this weekend. I’m going to connect with several old friends and hopefully make several new ones. I’m going to do my best to encourage them and let them know I care about them. But it’s not my love that they really need. It’s God’s. There will be people who will ask for my advice this weekend. They’ll talk to me about decisions they’re making, problems they’re having, and struggles they’re facing. But it’s not really my wisdom they need. It’s God’s. I’m going to be speaking three times this weekend. I’m going to unpack a few scriptures, give some thoughts about how they apply to our lives, and challenge people to put them into practice. But it’s not me that people really need to hear from this weekend. It’s God. If God doesn’t flow through me, speak through me, or touch through me, it will all be for naught. It’s God these people need. So, I’m praying that somehow, despite me, they will see Him, feel Him, and touch Him. I want them to go home and say, “Wow! That was God!”
So how about for YOU? Is that your prayer, too? If so, pray this prayer with me: “Father, we want people to see YOU! You have touched us, changed us, and made us who we are. We want the evidence of your power, love, and grace to be so apparent in our lives that people SEE you, FEEL you, and are IMPACTED by you. We confess to you that we are nothing and you are EVERYTHING. May our families, our friends, our neighbors, and churches see something in us that makes them say, ‘THAT has to be God!’ In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
