Do the right thing. Do it even when you know you could cut corners and get by more cheaply. Do it even though you fully believe no one is looking, and there’s no way you could ever get caught. Do the right thing even when you’ve convinced yourself that you need this, deserve this, or could really use this. Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. And that’s what people of God do.
Do the right thing to others. Do the right thing even if the person you’re dealing with is not doing the right thing. Do the right thing even though you really want to get back at them. Do the right thing even though it’s tearing you up inside to see someone else not do the right thing and get away with it. Do the right thing to other people even when they’re acting like jerks, snobs, deadbeats, or idiots. Do the right thing to them because the moment you don’t do the right thing, you become ONE OF THEM. And you don’t want to be one of them. Do the right thing to others because it’s the right thing to do. And that’s what people of God do.
Do the right thing when you need to give an apology or to make amends to someone you’ve wronged, whether by accident or on purpose. Do it even though you think you were right, and they were wrong. Do the right thing even if they started it. Do the right thing even if they are the person who ALWAYS starts it. Take ownership for your hurtful words or hurtful actions, even if they won’t take ownership for theirs. Do the right thing and apologize even if they won’t apologize in return. Don’t do it because of what you’ll receive in response. Do it simply because it’s the right thing to do. Do the right thing even if the other person won’t respond at all. You’re not responsible for them. You’re responsible for YOU. Do the right thing with them because treating people with respect and taking ownership for your actions is the right thing to do. And that’s what people of God do.
Wherever you go today, whomever you meet, in whatever situation you find yourself, do the right thing. It doesn’t matter what anyone around you does. It doesn’t matter if they think you’re weak, soft, crazy, or a “goody-goody” for doing it. Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. It’s what people of God do. And that’s who YOU really are! That’s God’s Word for you today.
