Walking Through the Psalms
“He always stands by his covenant--the commitment he made to a thousand generations.” – Psalm 105:8 (NLT)

“A God Who Keeps His Word”
Don’t you hate being lied to or deceived? Yet, you discover that in this fallen world, few people keep their word. You buy a car from a company that says the warranty covers it from bumper to bumper. Then something goes wrong, and they tell you that it’s just an expression. MANY things aren’t covered—including the very expensive part that broke down on YOUR car!
Or you go on an “all-inclusive” cruise or travel tour and are led to believe that everything is included in the price you paid. Then you start seeing these “other” expenses being added in. Before long, you discover your “all-inclusive” trip just doubled in price!
Or how about the people along the way who promise you that they are “there for you.” They passionately let you know that you can call them ANYTIME. Then you do. And there’s no response. Some people mean well, but their actions don’t nearly live up to their promises.
That’s why I love our verse today. Look at the words that the psalmist uses. “Covenant.” “Commitment.” We don’t serve a God of idle words and empty promises. A covenant is a SACRED contract and one that God stood by even when His people DIDN’T! In fact, Jesus Christ died on the cross precisely because we COULDN’T live up to our covenant with God. Let that blow your mind. We failed, but instead of US paying the price, God paid the price of that failure for us! THAT’S an amazing God!
God is COMMITTED to us. He understands how frail we are. Psalm 103 says, “He remembers that we are just dust.” But despite our up-and-down and in-and-out nature, God remains steady and strong. He never backs away from His commitment to us. Though we certainly don’t deserve it, He is Forever Faithful. Thank you, Lord!
So today, if you’re licking the wounds of yet one more time someone didn’t live up to what they said, welcome to planet earth. It’s a land of lies and deceptions. But as you go to God today, read our verse out loud. Let it be a reminder that God keeps His Word. God fulfills His Promises. Let His Faithfulness fill your heart with faith and hope. That’s God’s Word for you today.
