Walking Through the Psalms
“Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD.” – Psalm 105:3 (NLT)
“Claim His Name!”

“Claim His Name!”
I think one of the most meaningful sermon series I’ve ever done was on the names of God. The names God revealed Himself by or was given by others were more than just labels. They were descriptions of who God is or what God has done. His names are the tapestry of His Character. They are also the revelations of His Deeds. When we focus on God’s names, we become overwhelmed by His Presence. We become filled with faith and hope by His Power. And we become humbled by His love and passion for us.
That’s why the psalmist challenges us to “Exult in his holy name.” Focusing on God’s names gives you a solid foundation of faith upon which to stand. Focusing on God’s names gives you a handle that you can hang onto. Focusing on God’s names can give you the courage you need to take that step forward or the comfort that you need to rest and trust that God is truly in charge. The names we call God don’t change who He is, but they do change US and how we approach Him.
There are several powerful worship songs that focus on God’s names. One of my favorites is called “Way Maker.” The words are, “Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the darkness, My God, that is who You are.” Camp on that for a second. Which of those names means the most to YOU today? Do you need God to open a door that you can’t open or get you out of a place you can’t escape? He’s your Way Maker. Do you need money that you don’t have, a healing that doctors can’t provide, or a provision that seems impossible? He is your Miracle Worker. Is your hope slipping? Do you feel yourself sliding into a pit of despair? Do you want to believe, but you’re finding it hard to believe? He is your Promise Keeper and your Light in the darkness.
I want to challenge you today to spend some time in the amazing names of God. Remember who He is, and you’ll begin to believe again what He can do. Exalt the names of God and let your heart and soul fill with hope, joy, peace, and faith. All you need today is found in who He is. Bless His Holy Name!! That’s God’s Word for you today.
