Walking Through the Psalms
“But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me.” – Psalm 55:16 (NLT)
“Blessed Assurance”
“But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me.” – Psalm 55:16 (NLT)
“Blessed Assurance”
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine; Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long.
Does anyone remember this great old hymn? It’s what popped into my mind as I read our verse for today. David is going through an extremely difficult time. He’s dealing with a myriad of feelings from abandonment and betrayal to anxiety and fear. He doesn’t know what is ahead. But he does know ONE THING: God has him! “But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me.”
Do you hear David’s confidence in this verse? David knows that God sees him. He has absolutely no doubt that God hears him as he prays. And he lives in full confidence that God, in whatever way He chooses, will come to his aid and rescue him. I imagine that David said these words over and over again to himself as he waited on God.
That’s not a bad idea for us either. This verse is a great verse for many of us to claim today as our own. We HAVE a “blessed assurance!” We are the children of God whom He loves. We have been purchased by God and are heirs of His Kingdom. No matter what may happen to us in this world, we know that we will emerge victorious because God Himself holds us in the palm of His Hand. Therefore, whatever you’re facing today, whatever you are going through, praise the Lord your God. He hears YOUR cry for help and will rescue you. This is YOUR story and this is YOUR song! Hallelujah!! That’s God’s Word for you today.
