Walking Through the Psalms
“For troubles surround me—too many to count! My sins pile up so high I can’t see my way out. They outnumber the hairs on my head. I have lost all courage. Please, LORD, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me.” – Psalm 40:12-13 (NLT)

“Mountain-Moving Grace”
I had a friend tell me today that he’s recently seen God work in his life like never before. He’s had a long stretch of bad luck with a lot of things going wrong. He’s had health issues. He’s had car troubles. He’s had financial problems. It seems as if it’s just been one thing after another. He’s been a bit discouraged by it all, and who can blame him? It’s easy to get lost in times like that. It’s easy to wonder where God is and why all this bad stuff has happened.
But then, day by day, he’s been watching the hand of God at work. God healing. God providing. God opening doors and providing opportunities. None of them huge miracles, mind you. But each one of them is a small miracle that has taken a bite out of that mountain of trouble. And you eat that mountain of trouble the same way you eat an elephant. One bite at a time. Though we would like to have God take care of all of those problems with a huge, divine bulldozer that removes it all in one big scoop, He often doesn’t. As we put our faith and trust in Him, He does it one shovelful at a time.
But there’s a difference when the mountain we face is our sin. Maybe you’ve been there. David describes it in our verse today. “My sins pile up so high I can’t see my way out.” So what do you do when you’ve got THAT much sin—so much sin you can’t see your way out? Simple. You look UP! You see, unlike our troubles that we have to walk through and often overcome one bite at a time, our sin can only be removed by God. And He does that all at once. Do you remember what Jesus said faith can do? It can move MOUNTAINS. So when we confess our sins to the Lord and put our faith in Him, even if it is a MOUNTAIN of sin, God removes it fully and completely. It’s gone. It’s as if it never even existed. That ought to make someone today shout HALLELUJAH!
Surrounded by troubles today? Cry out to the Lord. Put your faith in Him, and you, too, may see Him do miracles in your life like never before. Are you staring at a mountain of sin? Don’t get lost in your shame. Don’t let the Enemy cause you to believe that you’re too far gone. Don’t you think for a minute that YOU have to remove that mountain. You can’t. Just confess your sins to the Lord and put your faith in Him. Then stand back and watch His mountain-moving grace go to work. That’s God’s Word for you today.
