Walking Through the Psalms
“I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.” – Psalm 40:10 (NLT)

“The Greatest Story Never Told”
I did a funeral today. It was for a man in our church whom I’ve known for over forty years. He was a good guy, lots of fun, very caring, and steadfast in his faith. I always tell people that I love doing funerals when I don’t have to lie about people or pretend as if they were better people than they were. This guy was a gem.
During the service, I noticed a couple of guys were there that I knew from serving on community boards. One of them, whom I hadn’t seen in a few years, came up after the service to talk with me. I gave him a hug and asked him what he was doing at the service. He told me he was a friend of the family. Since I hadn’t talked with him for so long, I said, “So what’s new and exciting in your life these days?” He smiled and said, “Hmm, new and exciting? Well, Jesus!” He then went on to say that he was now living life as a committed Christ-follower and how fulfilling it was.
I have to confess that his boldness in expressing his faith and love for God caught me off guard—but in a really good way! I have known him for a long time, and we had worked together on a number of training events and leadership development workshops. He’s smart, successful, and quite talented. But faith was something I had never heard him talk about. From the outside, he seemed quite self-sufficient. A good citizen and a decent man, but I never got the sense he was a Christ-follower. Or even remotely religious, for that matter. But here he was, talking openly and passionately about this newfound relationship with Jesus that he was obviously enjoying.
He was a great expression of what David was writing about in our passage today. When God has done something special in you, you just can’t hide it. You can’t just bury it. You can’t just smile and go on. There are others who need what you’ve found. They’re lost. They’re lonely. They’re hurting. They’re looking. And YOU have the answer. Has God done something wonderful in you? Let Him OUT! Don’t make Jesus the greatest story never told. That’s God’s Word for you today.
