Walking Through the Psalms
"Lift up your spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Let me hear you say, 'I will give you victory!'" – Psalm 35:3 (NLT)

“He Will Give You the Victory”
The Psalmist minces no words in this psalm. He wants God to ACT. And act NOW! He’s tired of being attacked. He’s tired of hiding and being on the run. He hasn’t done anything wrong, and he wants God to bring justice. Actually, he wants God to bring punishment. It’s not hard to hear his frustration with God because God isn’t responding as he wants. But then in our verse today, he says something that God WILL respond to. “Let me hear you say, ‘I will give you victory!” Now THAT’S a request he can count on God answering! In fact, the Lord answered it before he asked.
God has promised us the victory. Say that out loud. Claim that as your thought for today. Claim that as the promise you will hold onto this week. Make it a truth that you grip with faith when things aren’t going the way you planned that they would go. You see, we, like David, get so lost in the day-to-day battles that we forget that truth: We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord! We get focused on our setbacks. We get discouraged when things don’t go our way. We begin to feel abandoned when evil wins a time or two. And in the process, we forget that “the battle belongs to the Lord!”
No one can take anything from you that the Lord can’t replace. No can keep you from the destination that God is leading you to. Victory is not in facing troubles, or enduring trials, or encountering setbacks. Call me any name you want. I KNOW who I am! Attack me in whatever ways you want. My God will see me through. Take everything from me. I still have all the riches of my Father’s Kingdom. There’s no need to fret when you know you’ve already won!
Say it out loud again. “God has promised us the victory!” The God who lives in you will work through you this week. There’s nothing that you will face that can’t be overcome by the power of His Name. You don’t have to curse your enemy. You don’t have to wish judgment, justice, or punishment upon them. Pity them. Because you know something they don’t know. God has already given you the victory! That’s God’s Word for you today.
