“Walking Through the Psalms”
“Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.” – Psalm 28:7 (NIV)

“Carry Me, Lord!”
Let’s take a closer look at the last part of our verse for today. “Be their shepherd and carry them forever.” I’m so thankful for the way God shepherds me. Aren’t you? He’s so gentle and patient in His Guidance. He lovingly leads me and watches over me. But I realized as I read this that there are times when I need more than guidance, wisdom, and protection. There are times when I’m just done. I have no strength left, and I need God to carry me. I’ll bet some of you have been there before, too. You may be at that place today.
There may be some of you who have been dealing with an ongoing illness or injury, and today it seems to be getting the best of you. Your life has been endless doctors’ appointments, therapy, and medications, but the pain is still there. You need more than just a little help from God today. More than just a touch. You need Him to carry you. There may be some of you caregivers who are just exhausted today. You’ve been doing your best to keep a positive attitude, but today you just have no energy left. You’re caring for an aging parent, an ailing spouse, or a special needs child, and no one seems to understand how much energy it takes. You do it lovingly and willingly, often ignoring your own needs in the process. But today you’re done. You have nothing left to give. “Carry me, Lord,” is a good prayer for you.
Still others have been fighting a battle that seems like a war that has no end. You’ve been fighting for your marriage, fighting for your kids, or fighting for a cause that you believe God has called you to. But you’re weary from the war today. You feel like giving up, though you know you can’t. You need more than guidance from your Shepherd. You need more than just a word of encouragement. You need Him to carry you. Let’s make that our prayer today. “Lord, thank you for your constant presence. Thank you that you walk with us every day, tending to our every need. But today, Father, we need something extra. We have nothing left to give and no strength to keep going. We need more than a helping hand. We need you to carry us. Lift us up in your arms. Ease our pain, lift our burden, and comfort our hearts. Let us rest in Your Strength today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
