“It’s All About Jesus!”
Jesus & the Harvest (Matt 9:35-38)
“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” – Matthew 9:36 (NLT)

“Compassion”
Verses like our passage today give us insight into how Jesus sees us. “Compassion.” It’s a powerful word. It’s from a Greek word that means to feel something in the deepest part of your being. That means when Jesus sees what we’re going through, He’s MOVED. He CARES. He not only sees what we’re experiencing, He feels it.
That’s such a contrast from how we often think God must feel at times. When we’re struggling, we think God must be disappointed in us. When we’re suffering, we think God must be punishing us. When we’ve failed, we think God must be disgusted with us. What happens is that we project our own thoughts and feelings. WE are disappointed in us. WE think God is punishing us. WE are disgusted with us. We are not only our worst enemies at times, we are also our greatest critic.
But God is much more empathetic than we give Him credit for. He not only understands our human experiences and emotions, He went through them Himself. That means His heart is more tender than we know. He doesn’t look at us with judgmental eyes that are sizing us up. He sees us with eyes of compassion. He feels us in the deepest part of His being. That’s where His grace and healing come from.
Let this understanding change how you come to Jesus today. You don’t have to hide your failure. He already sees it. You don’t have to pretend as if everything is okay when it’s not. He already knows it. You don’t have to act as if you’re full of faith when the truth is you're struggling to hang on. Jesus understands. He feels your pain and sorrow. He knows how heavy the guilt is. Jesus GETS you. So turn your face toward Him today. Look into the fullness of His Grace and Glory. You will not see an uncaring, inattentive Lord. You’ll see a face full of what you never expected—compassion. That’s God’s Word for you today.
