This past Tuesday, I got to speak at chapel at Mid-America Christian University. I had sent them my notes for the message a week before. But on Monday I felt as if God wanted me to share something different. So as I prayed on Monday, God gave me a new message that went in a completely different direction. The engagement and response of the student body told me I had listened to God correctly. I spent time reflecting on that and thanking God for how amazing He is to give us exactly what we need when we need it. It was a Divine Gift. I spent time as I walked and prayed just celebrating in awe of who God is and how He works.
I love how the disciples did that as well. Jesus walked on water in front of them. Jesus calls Peter out of the boat to walk with Him. Then as Peter sinks, Jesus rescues Him and gets him back in the boat. As Jesus climbed into the boat as well, the wind stopped howling and things became quiet. But notice what they did next. “Then the disciples worshiped him.” Instead of grabbing the oars and immediately heading for shore, the disciples stayed in that moment of awe and spent time just worshipping Jesus for who He was and what He’d done. They didn’t just give a polite nod and run on to the next thing. They lingered. They spent a few moments reflecting, enjoying, appreciating, and celebrating the mighty work of God.
Holy moments and divine, sacred gifts of God are too precious to just consume and move on. They deserve to be remembered. They deserve to be appreciated. They deserve to be honored and worshipped. A breakthrough in a relationship. An unexpected provision or blessing. A remarkable healing or recovery. An unusual move of God. A divine intervention or protection. God is always near, but when He shows up in unexpected and exceptional ways, we need to mark that moment. Has God shown up for you in a special or unusual way lately? Don’t rush away from it too quickly. Take a moment to celebrate in awe. That’s God’s Word for you today.
