“You Spent Time with WHO?!!”

You’ll never believe who I got to walk with this morning. David Holt, the mayor of Oklahoma City! I had no idea he lived in my area or that he was willing to just spend time walking and talking with me. I figured he was much too busy running a city to hang out with a common guy like me. But he did. He was not only a nice guy, but he seemed truly interested in what I had to say. He listened to my concerns. He assured me he was already working on them. He gave me good advice. When our walk was over, I felt heard, affirmed, and honored. Why in the world would the mayor of a major city care about me?
Okay, the above paragraph wasn’t true. But I’ve got a tale that is even MORE unbelievable. I get to walk and talk with the King of Kings EVERY DAY!! He welcomes me to walk with Him, sit with Him, or ride in the car with Him. Even though He is THE most important being in all the universe, He listens to me. He cares about every single thing going on in my life. He gives me comfort when I’m hurting. He gives me strength when I’m struggling. He gives me guidance when I don’t know what to do. I am but a speck on a planet that is but a speck in the universe, yet when I meet with Him, I have His full attention. There are times I feel honored. There are times, quite honestly, I feel very unworthy. Though I have failed Him many times, He’s never failed me. And He’s never given up on me. What did I do to deserve such an incredible friend? Nothing. He offers me His Friendship out of love.
That’s what hit me when I read our passage today. Jesus climbs a hill with a bunch of rag-tag fishermen and nobodies and just sits down with them and talks, listens, and teaches. I wonder if they had any idea how privileged they were. I wonder if we do as well. God is waiting on YOU today. He’s more than willing to sit down with you, walk with you, or take a ride with you. He’ll hear your heart and He’ll fill your soul. Out of everything else that God has to do, He’s more than willing to make time for you. Do you have time for Him? That’s God’s Word for you today.
