“It’s All About Jesus!”
Jesus and the Jewish Leaders (John 5:16-47)
So the Jewish leaders began harassing Jesus for breaking the Sabbath rules. But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” – John 5:16-17 (NLT)

“God Is Always Working”
There was a great story in the news a year or two ago about an amazing principal in South Carolina named Henry Darby. Henry came from a life of poverty and had a tender heart for his students and former students whom he saw struggle financially. So much so, that he decided to quietly take a second job stocking shelves at Walmart three nights a week and use that money to help his students, former students, and their families with food, bills, and other needs. He was eventually spotted, and word of his sacrifice got out. He was recognized for his efforts, and Walmart and others joined in to help his cause.
I wondered when I read the article about him, how many opportunities or requests for his time he turned down because of his commitment to his second job. I wondered if there were people who thought him lazy, disinterested, or uncaring because he wasn’t available to go to their functions, their parties, or do things they wanted him to do. Henry wasn’t disinterested. He was very interested in the RIGHT things. And he was always working. I thought of Henry when I read our passage today. When the leaders gave Jesus a hard time about working on the Sabbath, Jesus responded with a great truth about Himself and His Father. Sabbath or no Sabbath, they are always working!
WE need to remember that! When God isn’t moving in the way we want Him to or as quickly as we want Him to, it’s not because He’s uncaring or disinterested. It’s not because He is taking a break or just ignoring us. God is ALWAYS working. And He is always working FOR US! He is moving, He is opening doors, He is putting pieces in place. He is working way ahead of us and behind the scenes for us. Just because we can’t see what He’s up to, it doesn’t mean He’s not active on our behalf. Sabbath or no Sabbath, seen or unseen, in ways we understand or may never understand, there is one thing we can be sure of. God is always working. That’s God’s Word for you today.
