Powerful Words from the Prophets
“…and the train of his robe filled the Temple.” – Isaiah 6:1 (NLT)
“Our Conquering King”
“…and the train of his robe filled the Temple.” – Isaiah 6:1 (NLT)
“Our Conquering King”
This is one of those verses that can blow right by us because we live in such a different day and age. But some time ago, as I was studying this passage, I got an insight from a commentator that gave me an exciting new perspective on this verse. They said that in ancient times, when kings would go to war and conquer other kingdoms, the victorious king would take the robe, or part of the robe, of the other king and have it sewn onto the end of his robe as an extension. It symbolized that the victorious king was now sovereign over this new kingdom, too.
Picture Isaiah, seeing the Lord. Many commentators believe Isaiah was in the Temple when he had this vision. So as he takes in this overwhelming vision of God, he spots his robe. In fact, he can’t help but see it because God’s robe is so long and so full that it fills the entire Temple! Imagine with me for a moment the various extensions that are attached to the Lord’s robe. They represent every kingdom that was in existence. They are symbolic of every kingdom that has been on earth up until this time. They were the robes for every kingdom that was yet to be. It was a reminder that there never has been nor ever will be any king as powerful as the Lord God Almighty. He is King over EVERY king!
Not only that, but that train of robes represented every power and principality as well. All of the forces of evil. All of the demons of hell. Satan’s robe itself is stitched in defeat on the train of the robe of the King of Kings! It was a reminder and a symbol that ultimately God will stand in rule over all the powers that will ever be. ALL will bow before Him.
Picture that robe. Imagine with me every force, every fear, every foe we face…their robe is on the train of God, too. Every disease. Every mental illness. Every pain, every suffering, every wound. Depression. Loneliness. Addiction. Anger. Hatred. Division. Despair. EVERY SINGLE FOE we face in our lives has been conquered by our King. The train of His Robe is an endless trail of what we face in life. What Isaiah saw was a vision of VICTORY. Our King is the Victorious King. Even death and the grave have been defeated by Him!
Oh, my friend, what are you facing today? What fears grip your heart or cause you to tremble and shake? What is it that you think you cannot stand up against today? Catch a fresh new vision of God! Your fear, your foe, and your greatest worry have all been defeated by His Mighty Hand. Your God is a Conquering Hero. He stands with and fights for you. Take another look at all He has defeated. The train of His Robe fills the Temple! That’s God’s Word for you today.
