Walking Through the Psalms
“Listen to the moaning of the prisoners. Demonstrate your great power by saving those condemned to die.” – Psalm 79:11 (NLT)
“Need a New Life?”

“Need a New Life?”
What a powerful prayer the psalmist prays in our passage today. And how amazing is our God in how He has answered that prayer over and over again! The writer may have been referring to those who were captured when Jerusalem was taken. It may also be a reflection on how God answered that prayer when the Israelites were delivered from the bondage of Egypt. Either way, it reminds us of God’s ability to deliver us and save us. And He continues to do that TODAY!
One of my friends on Facebook posted yesterday that they have been sober now for nearly 20 years. Their story is an amazing testimony of God’s grace and power. And it’s just one story of the millions that God has set free!
Aren’t you thankful that God can break the chains of addiction? Whether our drug of choice is alcohol, meth, cocaine, or heroin, He can free us! God can break the chains of gambling and pornography. He can free us from our workaholism and our shopaholism. He can free us from fear, anxiety, and shame. Whatever chains you wear, whatever prison you find yourself in, our God holds the key. Cry out to Him and just watch what He can do. He is Our Deliverer!
The second part of that passage touched my heart deeply today. I was a man condemned to die. I was guilty in my sin with no way to save myself or redeem myself. I couldn’t do enough good to make up for my bad, and no way to remove the stain from my soul. Then God did for me through Christ what I couldn’t do. I love how Paul expresses it in Colossians 2:13-14: “You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” The Innocent One died so that I might live. There’s not a day in my life that I’m not overwhelmingly grateful for that.
Bound by chains or imprisoned in your life? God can set you free. He’s still our Deliverer. Need forgiveness? Need redemption? Are you a “dead man walking” and need a second chance? The One who died for me died for YOU. Your New Life is just a prayer away! That’s God’s Word for you today.
