Walking Through the Psalms
“Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.” – Psalm 68:28 (NIV)

“Making a History of Faith”
One of the keys to great faith is a good memory. When we remember what God has done, it’s easier for us to believe what He can do. That’s what David is talking about here. He’s reminding himself and his people of what God has done. Has God defeated enemies before? Absolutely. Has God ever gotten him out of a tight spot before? Time and time again. Has God ever worked a miracle or made a way when there seemed to be no way? More times than David could count. So David says, “Show us THAT power, Lord. Show us THAT strength once more. You’ve done it before, do it again!”
I realize that there may be some who have never trusted God before, and this is all new to you. If so, listen to the testimony of David and those of us who have seen God work. You CAN trust Him. God loves you more than you know and hears the prayers of His People as they cry out to Him. Whatever tight spot you’re in, God sees you and can help you. Take a step of faith today and put your trust in Him. You can build your own history of faith to stand on!
But there are many of us who DO have a history with God. We serve a God whom we’ve seen do a lot already. We’ve seen God win battles for us that we couldn’t have possibly won ourselves. We’ve watched in amazement as God opened doors that we never believed could have been opened. We’ve stood in awe as God has performed miracle after miracle. And today, we need one more!
Take a step back and remember. Remember that time when you thought it was hopeless, and God showed up and blew you away? Remember that time when you prayed over that child, person, or situation, and God answered your prayer in a powerful fashion? Do you remember when you thought you were facing your battle all alone because you couldn’t see God anywhere around, but then, out of nowhere, God showed up and you realized He was there all along? Well, THAT God is still here. That God is still at work. And that God still loves YOU with all His Heart.
So stop fretting and staring at the future for a minute. Stop worrying about what MIGHT BE and just take a few minutes to remember WHAT WAS. Think about all that God has already done for you, and then pray David’s prayer for yourself. “Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.” Let your faith stand on more than your hope in God. Let it stand on your HISTORY with God. Then let your shaky legs grow strong and say to Him, “You’ve done it before, Lord; do it once more!” Maybe you’ll make some history again. That’s God’s Word for you today.
