Walking Through the Psalms

“Our Lives Are in His Hands”
I went to see a good friend in the hospital this past weekend. He’s had a rough time of it physically the last couple of years, and we’re not sure if he’s going to pull through this round or not. One of the amazing things about him is his unwavering faith and confidence in God. Whether he’s doing well or struggling, he holds onto this unshakeable belief: His life is in the Hands of God.
This is a DEEP kind of faith. It is a MATURE kind of faith. It’s the kind of faith that doesn’t just trust in the POWER of God; it’s faith in the SOVEREIGNTY of God. It’s a faith that believes in God even when God doesn’t do what we want Him to do. It’s a faith that trusts in the goodness and power of God even when He doesn’t heal. It’s a faith that is resilient and tenacious and commits to following God even when His will is leading in a direction we don’t want to go. It’s the faith of the three Hebrew children who faced the fiery furnace and said, “But even if God doesn’t save us…” It’s the faith of Job that declared, “Even if you slay me, I’ll still serve you!” It’s a faith that knows that this world is not the end, but just a dress rehearsal for eternity. It’s a faith that is able to pray, “But not my will, but THY will be done.” Do YOU have that kind of faith?
The psalmist reminds us that like it or not, our lives ARE in the Hands of God. We can fight that and try to believe we have complete control of our own destiny, but that’s putting faith in US, not God. The other option is to allow that truth to give you REST. You can rest in God’s love. You can rest in God’s goodness. You can rest in the knowledge that God knows what is best and that ultimately, no matter what life throws at you, God alone controls your destiny. And He also controls your ETERNITY. So you can let go of all fear of the future.
Take a moment today to look in the mirror and say these words out loud: “Lord, my life is in your hands.” Trust God’s Love. Trust God’s Power. And trust God’s Sovereignty. In His Hands is the absolute BEST place to be! That’s God’s Word for you today.
