Walking Through the Psalms
“He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains.” – Psalm 95:4 (NLT)
“God Is Bigger”
“He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains.” – Psalm 95:4 (NLT)
“God Is Bigger”
What are you facing that is intimidating you right now? What obstacles are you up against that seem insurmountable? What problem seems overwhelming and unsolvable? What is causing fear to grip your heart and leaving you paralyzed today? Can I tell you a secret? Your problem is not your problem. Your image of God is. Somewhere, in the shadow of whatever it is you’re facing, your God has shrunk.
You’ve become so focused on the thing you fear that you have lost sight of The One you have your faith in. Fear has a myopic effect. It draws your attention to the thing that is right in front of you until it’s all you see. Faith takes a step back. In fact, faith takes a few steps back. Faith doesn’t ignore the fear. It just puts it into perspective. Did you read our verse today? “He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains.” Our God is a BIG God. When we lose sight of THAT, our problems become gigantic.
I have no idea what you’re facing today, but I do know this: God is BIGGER. He is bigger than your diagnosis of cancer. He is bigger than your marriage problems or that problem with your kid. He is bigger than that addiction that has you shackled in bondage. He is bigger than that huge failure that has you reeling with guilt. He is bigger than that stack of bills on your kitchen table. Read the verse again, but out loud. “He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains.” Now read it again like it’s TRUE!
Take a step back and regain your perspective. Imagine God holding the oceans in one Hand and all the mountains of the world in the other. Now say this: “My God is BIGGER!” Say it over and over until it makes its way from your mouth to your brain and into your heart. Say it so that your eyes tear away from the thing that’s holding you as a hostage of fear. Focus on God until your soul floods with faith again. God holds the depths of the earth. God holds the mountains. God holds your problem. And God holds YOU! If you are serving a small God, then throw up your hands and run for the hills because you are most likely doomed. But if your God is the One True God, then He holds those hills. Run to HIM! That’s God’s Word for you today.
